Gakusen Toshi Asterisk S1
7.8/10
Asterisk follows Ayato as he tries to chase his long lost sister to find out what happened to her during the grand festa. Which is basically like the martial arts tournament except with no weaponry rules.
This anime has a little bit of everything but,is generally a action heavy anime. If I had to compare it to an anime I would use Gokukoku no Brynhildr without all of the brutal deaths as this anime does have some fan-service in it but, it is mostly about the fights. With that being said I will say a good portion of the first season is a lot of world building and character placement that is later explained and shown in the second season. That being said Ayato is pretty much a badass throughout the whole thing. It's not like he can't be beat but, man I would hate to see what happens when this dude can go at one-hundred percent the whole time. Ayato has a curse placed on him that will not allow him to fight at full power for more than a very limited amount of time. Said curse was done to him by his sister before she mysteriously vanished for him to never see again. This is another one of those animes that if you don't know about it you will never see it kind of thing so, I would go see it as soon as I could if I were you.
A strength of this anime is Ayato in general appearing pretty generic at first where I thought I was about to watch yet another harem anime he was written out of that role smoothly enough for me to accept the harem happening to him also, I really like the fact that Ayato seems to have picked who it is he wants which is rare. In that same note Ayato is super badass in a fight I mean he just kicks ass and if you think he is badass in season one hoho...you gotta see season two. I would say the only real weakness of the anime is probably the fact that the reason he can't fight at one hundred percent was because his sister put a curse on him which, is all fine and good but, it is never really explained as to what really happens even with season two included. Due to that fact the anime is knocked down a bit for some sloppy story writing on their part which is why it won't crack an eight on either review since story is a big part of how I review.
In conclusion this anime is a really good starter for those just now getting into the harem groove or, even if you just want some cool ass kicking. This one may not be a bad one to show your buddy who is afraid to let out his inner weeb since he is a little shy about seeing some anime get a little R rated. It has just enough romance to even satisfy your girl-friend real or digital.
