Parasyte

9/10 10/10(Brutality)

Parasyte is an anime about well, you guessed it parasites that invade the human body giving them super natural abilities but, most parasites destroy their hosts' brain. This kills the human and allows the parasite to roam freely using their body.

Parasyte is pretty gory and is one of my all time favorites. Mainly because it never held back and it always tried to out do itself. Much like its' brethren in the brutal spectrum you can expect parasyte to deliver nightmarish deaths and great fights! Parasyte follows Shinichi as he is able to keep the parasite he names "Migi" out of his brain; together they combat other parasites to survive in their cruel world. Of course things between Migi and Shinichi don't exactly start off great as you would imagine I mean how would you feel if you were a belt loop away from death? The two set aside their differences to survive and it is nice to see them develop ways to fight people as a two man team rather than a one man army.

The main strength of Parasyte is the way the story is told. It keeps you on the edge of your seat and really brings you into their world to give you a little taste of what it is like to be in their world. It spends just enough time explaining what is going on instead of telling you about what happens if the birds fly in the wrong direction or how many hit points you'll lose if that happens unlike some series and instead goes for a more compact relevance based approach which helps them out a lot. Shinichi is a pretty good main character despite my early dislike of him he is a real ass-kicker when he puts his mind to it especially towards the end. The only real weakness of parasyte may be its' side characters in general I felt like they could have done more with them but, I also understand that they aren't the main characters so it is expected for them to not be quite as thought out as Migi and Shinichi are.

Unfortunately Parasyte only got one season as the ending is pretty cut and dry giving us little to no room for any second season even if we wanted one. So, enjoy it while you can because there is so very little of it. This anime is fairly popular in most anime circles and will most likely come up in anyone who knows anything about anime's top most brutal list. Even with the brutality the anime actually has an okay love story for those of you who wants some love and gore at the same time(crazy ass Yanderes). Though, I will warn you the love doesn't come till the end.

In conclusion, Parasyte is a great anime for someone looking to have a short starter if you have a tough stomach. I wouldn't show it to anyone who isn't mentally prepared to see someone get liquefied on a show or, a girl on your first date less she ask you about it. However, if you are someone who has seen some brutal anime or are looking to get into it I would highly recommend Parasyte to you!
