Actually I am a...
7/10
This RomCom of an anime revolves around a high school that has some secrets that not many know about such as: vampires, aliens, and even werewolves. We will follow Asahi a kid who can't lie as he tries to keep the schools biggest secret.
Jitsu wa watashi wa(Actually I am a...) is a typical school anime that reminds me of something more a long the lines of Rosario + Vampire as it is similar in concept. There is a main character trying to hide a huge secret in both of these anime one being that he is a human the other is that the girl he is trying to court is actually a vampire. This one is about trying to keep the vampiric lady a secret rather than himself even go so far as to throw himself under the bus to keep from revealing her secret. It is reveled why she must keep it a secret much later in the story. Fortune Arterial is also a pretty good comparison to this anime.
This show mainly goes around the fact that the main character is simply bad at keeping secrets even though, he is basically keeping the lives of the girls that like him in tact by not telling people. Now the main heroine of interest is Shiragami Youko whom I would say is the best of the characters which, is fitting since that is basically who the story is about in general. Shiragami is a vampire that is pretty ditzy to be honest but, living the immortal life you have to have fun sometimes right? She provides interesting thought to how maybe some vampires would live in society in secret today if they existed(or how they ARE existing) such as, after school since she has to fly home she must wait for everyone else to go home so that she can then fly home.
The core of this anime is the relationship between Shiragami and Asahi though, I would say the strongest element in this anime is the light comedy that goes across most of the anime. It is good for small laughs and warm fuzzies. Whether you like the romance comedy or just the raw relationship between our two love birds. Though, the side characters are not bad in themselves. With all of these little tid bits here and there the show gives you a little of everything but, doesn't really accel at anything. Even without focusing one down super hard and making it super great there are not really a lot of flaws either so, it comes out in my book at least above average. Mostly because there was nothing super ground breaking but, they did manage to execute it pretty well.
Another thing I would like to add is the very different character designs now, normally I am not a super heavy hitter on the art-style or character designs as there are a lot of crazy ones in anime but, this one I particularly liked mostly the way that Shiragami looks. Not to say that everyone else doesn't compare but, they really put a lot of time into Shiragami. That is to be expected since she is the main heroine. Overall this anime is a nice starter and is fairly easy to follow there is not a complicated story and the characters are generally likable!
Thanks for reading as always be sure to subscribe, share, and comment for a bite!
