Big O
7/10
Ever wanna see Batman in a giant robot well, this is pretty much what this is. The Big O is a story about Robert Smith (awesomely generic) who is a man whom is basically a private investigator with a giant robot of ass kick a long with one of the weirdest intro songs ever.
Despite my personal love of this show via childhood and original Toonami it has just as many problems as it does cool factors. Starting off with the cool stuff like Big O which is a robot that can show up just about anywhere even when Robert isn't anywhere near where he lives. Also, the fact that the dude is really cool in most of the situations he ends up in. With more budget in his pocket than in his show he did a fairly good job of leaving a good impression on anyone who saw him. There are a lot of weird factors in Big O though that really hurt the quality.
One of the main harmers is the story which I ended up rewatching and still have no clue what the hell happened. So, if you can figure it out please put it down below. There are so many hard parts to follow with this story that it ends up making it unwatchable for some people who aren't good at following stories. It makes for an underwhelming performance despite the cooler things that do end up happening in Big O and there are a lot of those.
I would say the strength of this anime is definitely the action overall. Anytime that Big O shows up you know that ass is about to get kicked. It's big it's powerful and even though Big O isn't necessarily fast the slow big punches give the big robot a lot more power behind his punch. If I had a wet dream about big robots I would wanna see a Jaeger from Pacific Rim throw down with Big O. The two robots are similar in size and weight and have unlike Gundam the sense that they are big ass heavy machinery is very real since most everything they do is slow and requires a form of inertia another world I would like to see Big O throw down in is probably Neir:Automata. Granted Big O fights a lot of big robots in his world too as Robert is not the only one with a giant ass robot they even end up fighting a big monster. Another thing I really like in this anime that is a little bit away from the action is the fact that they show Big O being repaired after fights giving a presence of consequences for fighting poorly.
Another thing that I would say would make Robert similar to Bruce Wayne is the fact he has a butler that helps him with everything including repairs on Big O to the occasional tea time that is needed. He does end up with a strange Automata female maid that learns from his butler and rides around with him in his fancy car or sometimes even Big O. Now this anime also delves into one of the weirder troves of having a romance between a human and a robot girl but hey if you like it robo style who am I to blame you?
In conclusion, Big O is a classic in MY mind but, is really hard to follow. The story is sometimes confusing and even if you follow close attention you may have no idea what happened in the end. Even with all of that the show manages to give you a good taste of giant robot throw-downs on a consistent basis with real consequences to fighting like shit for Robert Smith.
