Black Bullet
7/10
Welcome back once again to another review we'll jump right into this one. Now, Black Bullet is fairly underground and has a pretty small fan-base as far as I know (though I could be wrong). Much of that has to do with the fact it is just not very talked about and a lot of people have no idea what it is so, I'll fill you in.
This is a story set in a post-apocalyptic world where our main man Rentaro is faced with many difficult decisions in his life. He is a public officer with a powerful little girl (Enju) that he thinks of more as a daughter than anything else. He knows that Enju's life will be short but wishes to bring her a world that she can enjoy without having to fight monsters on a daily basis. There is a lot of strength in the story telling for Rentaro which makes up for some of the lesser characters as it seems they may not have been that well thought out as some of them were simply uninteresting. While this did kill some of the story for me it is not a total meltdown. I also must say I truly enjoyed the raw part of this anime as they were not afraid to do some of the grittier things that anime tends to shy away from a lot.
With the good comes the bad and while this show had many great parts it also had some bad ones. Some of the characters felt under-developed and the pacing was at death metal speed which I think came from some time restraints. With that in mind everything worked out in the end as the story came across well and even left a huge twist to make you want more later on should they get a season two I feel like there are some things they might could explain better but, we'll see if it happens.
That being said I enjoyed the combat as well since you genuinely feel as though Rentaro is in a very hopeless situation and you can even feel his spirit breaking little by little as the anime goes on only to build him stronger as the show goes on. Unfortunately there is only thirteen episodes and I'm not sure how much he progressed after that. This anime will probably not have a second season as it has been out of the market for a very long time and has a smaller fan base than most anime's that get a second season so unless that changes we probably won't see a season two. I personally would like to see a season two simply because I am interested in the story and how Rentaro will grow there were enough twist to get me quite invested in the whole story and here I am trying to get people to watch it.
All in all Black Bullet in my opinion should have more fans and needs a chance to grow before it gets better. There are rumors going around about a season two this year but, it has been four years since the first season so it is unlikely. But, don't let that stop you from watching it if you enjoy the grittier anime's as I promise it does get pretty dark during the final episodes. Tune in next Friday for more anime reviews.
